The 20s influence

The catwalks were brimming with "deco details and Twenties silhouettes" (Lucy Hutchings) as a result of Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F.Scott Fitzgerald's classic The Great Gatsby coming to cinemas in December'12.

The affluent leisure class of The Great Gatsby was fully manifested on Ralph Lauren's S/S'12 catwalk collection. The show featured cloche hats, silky separates with watercolour florals in Easter pastels and the most glamorous of gowns.
Designers have utilised all-over beaded embellishment, decorative flapper dresses and a silky gloss aesthetic to evoke an image of 20s fashion: Gucci and Etro showed tasselled trims, Marchesa worked with lavish beading and Ralph Lauren created a froth of ostrich feathers.
